A group of seven Professional Congress Organizers (PCOs) from the UK recently participated in a familiarization (fam) trip to Athens and the Athenian Riviera and explored the potential of these areas as destinations ideal for holding meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE).
The fam trip was organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization’s office in the UK & Ireland (GNTO UK & Ireland) in collaboration with the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) and the Tourism Directorate of the Region of Attica.
During the fam trip, guests were given a detailed presentation on the various venues in Attica, suitable to host congresses and events. The ACVB’s main objectives and future plans to promote congress tourism in Athens were presented.
The foreign tourism professionals were also introduced to Attica and its strategic tourism promotion plan, which focuses on showcasingthe region as a multifaceted destination, ideal for short vacations (city break tourism) all year round.
Moreover, the guests were introduced to the nearby islands and also informed on the region’s alternative tourism forms, various cultural and sports events, local gastronomy and sailing opportunities.
Two promotional videos of the Attica Region titled “Perfect Ten” and “Attica’s Islands” were also presented to the PCOs.
According to the Region of Attica, the participants showed a great interest in Athens and the region’s potential as a MICE destination.
“They were impressed by the many different locations, the plethora of experiences offered within a distance of only two and a half hours from the capital’s center, the locals’ hospitality and the warm climate,” the region said in an announcement.
“The possibilities of Attica are endless… Attica has something different for every traveler, for every season and every budget.”
