Five-star Resorts Packed for Greece’s Aug. 15 Holiday, Rates Soar
Five-star hotels at popular destinations across Greece are fully booked and charging higher rates for the August 15 Dormition of the Virgin Mary holiday, according to a survey published this week by Greek daily Kathimerini.
According to the report, the elevated demand early in the season has resulted in limited availability particularly at destinations attracting high-come travelers including Rhodes, Corfu and Santorini, which travel agents say are fully booked for the August 11-16 period. The same applies for Mykonos (97 percent booked) and Elounda (89 percent) on Crete.
In the meantime, room/suite rates at five-star resorts have soared with the going charge for five nights in a suite for two on Santorini reaching as much as 40,000 euros, 15,244 euros on Corfu, 11,647 euros on Mykonos, 7,640 euros at Elounda and 6,200 euros on Rhodes, according to Kathimerini.
According to the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, there are currently 444 five-star hotels operating in Greece of a total of 9,730 units.
