Signature Travel: Educational Tourism from India is Gaining Ground in Greece

Greece seems to be gaining ground as an ideal destination to host educational tourism programs for students in India, according to Greek travel agency Signature Travel.

The Athens-based travel agency, last year launched efforts for Greece to become a educational tourism destination and is seeing its initiative bearing fruit. “School representatives and tourism professionals involved in this type of tourism are showing their enthusiasm by proposing programs of educational nature to take place in our country,” said Signature Travel Director Maria Alifrangi.

Athens, Ancient Olympia and Santorini are key destinations intended to be included in the educational programs, while Signature Travel said that there is a growing interest for other parts of Greece such as Thessaly, Crete and Rhodes.

According to Alifrangi, the presence of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) in the OTM 2017 tourism exhibition in Mumbai last spring gave India’s local professionals a very positive impression.

“Synergies are very important in new endeavors such as this one and there are suggestions already made by Signature Travel and its partners for the active participation of the Ministries of Culture and Education so this new tourism product includes additional elements necessary for the final evaluation for our country from this new market,” Alifrangi added.

Supporters to the educational tourism programs in Greece include Signature Travel, the Olympia Hotel Association, the Athenaeum Intercontinental Hotel and Blue Star Ferries.
