Lesvos Getting Ready to Host 2017 Ouzo Fest
The island of Lesvos in the northeastern Aegean is getting ready to host the Ouzo Fest 2017, an annual event dedicated to the world-renowned anise-flavored Greek spirit and organized by the Lesvos Association of Distillers.
The ouzo festival will be held July 14-15 in the town of Mytilini and on July 22 in Plomari. It will include ouzo tasting events that will give visitors the opportunity to sample between 40 ouzo labels, meet the distillers and learn more about the gastronomy of Lesvos.
During the festival, the island’s taverns and “kafenia” (local, traditional coffee shops) will serve ouzo and “mezedes” (Greek appetizers) to the sounds of Greek traditional music.
Lesvos and the Greek spirit ouzo are inseparable, since the island is home to 16 renown ouzo producers, while the Mytilini and the Plomari Ouzo are both products of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
