SETKE: June Bookings Down for Greece’s Small Accommodation Facilities

Small tourism accommodation facilities in Greece, recorded a decline in bookings and overnight stays for the month of June, according to the Greek Confederation of Tourist Accommodation Enterprises (SETKE), which cites the uncontrolled availability of Airbnb-style rentals as the reason.

“Airbnb-style accommodation facilities are attracting a significant share of clientele who selected small tourist accommodation businesses undermining their operation,” SETKE, representing over 30,000 small and medium-sized businesses, said.

“This factor combined with the collapse of the domestic market, which for many years has been the main market for rented rooms as well as the increased interest in all-inclusive tourism has had an impact on the bookings and overnight stays at small facilities across the country.”

SETKE is calling on the government to crack down on illegal accommodation rentals which endanger the sustainability of the industry.
