Within the framework of the “North Aegean 2014-2020” operational program, 900,000 euros have been budgeted for the restoration and promotion of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos, and its Natural History Museum. A total of 600,000 euros will go towards the identification of inaccessible Northern Aegean island ecosystems which will also be promoted as sites of tourist interest.

Projects will be carried out at the Kalloni Environmental Information Center on Lesvos, at the Kalouta Exhibition Center on Chios and at the Epicurean Cultural Center on Samos.

“By tapping into EU funds, we are funding projects focusing on the natural environment that highlight and showcase the invaluable natural wealth of our islands and their particular tourist identity,” said Kalogirou.

“At the same time, the North Aegean Region is taking initiatives to implement modern and innovative projects in efforts to bring the public even closer to the unique offerings of our country,” she added.
