Porto Carras Introduces its Wines to Italian Journalists
The Porto Carras Grand Resort located in Halkidiki, northern Greece, recently hosted a group of Italian wine-expert journalists and gave them the grand tour of its vineyards and winery.
Situated at the foothills of Mount Meliton, Domaine Porto Carras features the largest Greek vineyards in a total area of 4,750 acres. Sommelier Apostolos Balatsos provided guests with information on Domaine Porto Carras and its contribution to the area’s wine production, the biological methods implemented and the resort’s “Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)” zone.
The guests toured the Domaine Porto Carras winery and participated in a wine tasting event, which included five of Porto Carras’ white, red and rose wines, namely “Melissanthi”, “Malagouzia”, “Limneon”, “Chateau” and “Rosé”.
Participants also visited the resort’s Villa Gallini and were impressed by its architecture and history as it has hosted distinguished personalities over the years, such as French politician François Mitterrand, Prince Albert of Monaco, pianist Gina Bachauer, Russian president Vladimir Putin and many others.
The trip was organized by the office of the Greek National Tourism Organization in Italy, the Wine Producers Association of Northern Greece and the Tourism and International Relations Department of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
