Registration for 1st “Patmos Revelation” Sports Event is Now Open!

Registration has opened for the “Patmos Revelation”, a new sports tourism event in Greece that includes swimming and running and will be held between June 30 and July 2 on one of the world’s most historic and holy islands: Patmos.

The event’s running routes, designed and planned by All About Running Director Nikos Polias, include a 5km route (starting from Skala, following the coastal route to Grikos and returning to Skala) and a 15km route (starting from Skala, following the coastal route to Grikos, crossing the town of Chora and return to Skala). Detailed information about the routes can be found here.

The open water swimming route, designed by the Federal Technical Coach of Swimming, Nikos Gemelos, will be held at Grikos Bay. Swimmers will have to cover a 1 mile (1.6 km) distance. The lifeguard school of Katerini, Lifeguard Patrol, will supervise the safety of swimmers.

“For the first time we will be on the beautiful island of Patmos to organize an open water swimming race with the best possible safety standards,” Gemelos, a coach with many distinctions in the Olympic Games and World Championships in open water swimming, said.

“This top Olympic sport will be included in the event’s program and our goal is to promote Greece abroad through sports tourism,” he added.

“Patmos Revelation” will be held for good cause, as part of its revenue will be given for the support of Patmiada Ecclesiastical School (Patmiada of the Genus Ecclesiastical School).

The Municipality of Patmos is organizing the event in cooperation with the Region of South Aegean and Active Media. The aim of the “Patmos Revelation” is to highlight the element of sports tourism and attract as many tourists as possible to participate and compete in the event and also experience the sacred island’s history.

According to the organizers, a full entertainment package is available for participants that will leave them wonderful memories from the holy island that was home to Ioannis the Theologian.
