“It has been an impressive start for the tourism season, following two record years and Crete is in the spotlight,” Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura said during her visit to the 7th Pancretan Exhibition entitled “Crete: The Great Meeting & Local Tastes of Greece”.
The exhibition was held on May 6-14 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Athens with the participation of Crete‘s municipalities, chambers and associations, local producers and farmers.
During her speech, Kountoura referred to the national tourism policy the ministry is currently implementing to attract tourists all year round and support activities that connect tourism with the local cuisine and products.
“The promotion of Greek destinations and their local products could initiate a new business activity, which would increase revenues, boost employment and benefit local communities,” the Minister said. She also underlined the importance of exhibitions that provide Greeks with the opportunity “to learn more on the beauties of their country, the local products and the authentic tastes of each region”.
Kountoura spoke with exhibitors and local producers, while she participated in cultural events organized by Cretan associations.
