Greece-UAE Ink Maritime Transport Deal
As part of the Greek government’s drive to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Shipping Minister Panagiotis Kouroublis signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on maritime transport with UAE Minister of State, Dr Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Jaber, during the 3rd session of the UAE-Greece Higher Joint Committee held in Athens last week.
Kouroublis underlined the importance of the UAE’s geographical position and its leading role as a global oil producer, adding that Greek shipping together with the strategic position of Greece’s ports can play a key role in UAE trade.
The agreement foresees among others free access to internationally traded cargoes under fair competition; the mutual provision of knowhow and infrastructure to ships and seafarers; the establishment of shipping companies in either territory; cooperation for the removal of barriers to international maritime transport; cooperation and exchange in seafarers’ training and education.
Dr Al Jaber added there were many opportunities for cooperation in the fields of investment, energy, tourism, education, science and technology, sports, culture, food and agriculture, to benefit the people of both countries.
