Ellinair Announces New Kavala – St. Petersburg/Moscow Routes
Greek carrier Ellinair, a member of Mouzenidis Group, recently announced the launch of new air routes from the northern Greek city of Kavala to St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia.
The seasonal service will run from May 26, 2017 until September 10, 2017. Flights from Kavala’s Alexander the Great International Airport to Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport will run on Tuesdays and Fridays. Flights to St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo International Airport will run on Mondays and Thursdays.
Ellinair’s goal is to offer more options for Russian tourists coming to Greece, opening up destinations such as Eastern Macedonia and Thrace that may be less known overseas, but rich in their religious and cultural heritage, as well as northern Aegean islands such as Thasos and Samothrace and beaches in Alexandroupoli and Kavala.
The airline’s new routes are sure to appeal to those that wish to take a “Footsteps of Apostle Paul” trip, as Kavala, Philippi and Samothrace were all stops made by the great Apostle to the Nations during his first European missionary journey.
Moreover, St. Paul baptized the first European convert to Christianity at Philippi, just outside of Kavala. This was one of the main reasons that Ellinair decided to launch flights to Kavala, as the Mouzenidis Group aims to bring thousands of Orthodox pilgrims to Greece each year.
