The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) has announced a unique program of open events for the entire family during the holiday season.

From December 24 to January 2, the SNFCC will host Christmas readings for children and adults, unique circus shows/one-man circus, entertaining games and workshops and stand-up comedy shows.

On December 26, Eugene Trivizas will land in the SNFCC on his flying seahorse to share his amazing adventures and magical stories, while at the Kids Playpark (December 28), both children and adults will work together and have fun through participating in original activities.

Classical music will play a central role in SNFCC’s Christmas celebration, with melodies from different eras, from all around the world, taking visitors back in time. The dreamy classical sounds will be complemented by the Voyage Jazz Group (December 24) and the Drums & Voice Jazztronica Project / I. Doumanis, A. Toubanaki (December 30), inviting all to enjoy different rhythms in a lively atmosphere.

The Arsakeio Children’s Choir (December 27) will sing traditional carols and beautiful Christmas hymns, while the Greek National Opera (GNO) will introduce visitors to the enchanting world of lyrical theater with a radiant Christmas Opera Gala (December 28).

Furthermore, the SNFCC’s holiday program includes favorite Christmas movies that will offer moments of laughter, adventure and nostalgia. Screenings start with How the Grinch stole Christmas (December 26), for both children and adults, and continue with the beloved classic musical White Christmas (December 29).

During the last days of 2016, the SNFCC’s younger visitors will get acquainted with the lovable teddy bear Paddington (December 27), while the entire family will enjoy a rare screening of Fantasia (December 30), a landmark of contemporary cinema.

New Year’s Eve at the SNFCC

New Year’s Eve at the SNFCC will kick off with book readings, hosted by the National Library of Greece. Authors, actors and other artists will select Christmas stories from around the world — from the NLG’s collection — and read them to “children” of all ages.

On December 31, the SNFCC visitors can enjoy a live broadcast of one of the world’s most renowned ensembles, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, which consists of some of the greatest musicians of all time while, on the first day of the year, 2017 will be welcomed through the broadcast of the New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, the global music event that will be broadcast in 90 countries around the world and is expected to be watched by more than 50 million viewers.

Moreover, through two captivating performances (December 31 and January 1), the multi-talented The 7 Fingers group will present a magnificent spectacle combining theater, circus, music, dance and acrobatics that will defy the boundaries of urban culture. Also, on the afternoon of January 1, David Dimitri will present his One Man Circus Show, an innovative combination of acrobatics, music and dance performed by the Lord of the Wire (New York Times).

On the final night of 2016, at 11 pm, the SNFCC will welcome the New Year with the ultimate New Year’s outdoors party, filled with music, dancing, treats, surprises and colorful fireworks, lighting up the Athenian sky.

As part of the festive, New Year’s atmosphere, the special edition of the SNF RUN Running into the New Year will take place (January 31, 11:40pm) during the changing of the year. It will end at the SNFCC where a big celebration will take place.
