PNO: No Ferries in Greece on December 2-3 Due to Strike

ferry-strikeThe Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) has announced a 48-hour nationwide strike in all ship categories from 6 am on Friday, December 2, until 6 am on Sunday, December 4. It is reminded that PNO recently announced a strike for Thursday, December 8.

The Greek seamen are mainly protesting against a possible increase in their income tax.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, PNO underlined that changes to the taxation of seafarers has been mentioned in talks between Athens and creditors in order to close the second bailout review.

According to PNO, Greek seamen are in danger of losing their special tax regime and being taxed up to 45% in accordance to Law 4387/2016.

The federation said that if that occurs then “the seamen industry will be driven to extinction.”

PNO warned that the two-day strike may be the beginning of a rolling programme of industrial action.
