The Tourism Ministry is joining forces with the Municipality of Athens, the Region of Attica and public and private stakeholders, for the international promotion of the Greek capital and region as a city break destination.

athens_attica_city_break_meetingOn the initiative of Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura and following discussions with Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis and Attica Region Governor Rena Dourou, a meeting took place on Monday with public and private stakeholders — including representatives from the Municipality of Athens, the Region of Attica, Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the Federation of the Hellenic Associations of Tourist & Travel Agencies (fedHATTA), Aegean Airlines, Ellinair and the Regional Union of Municipalities of Attica — to discuss target markets for the most effective promotion as well as lay the groundwork for the two-year strategy which will be launched in 2017.

The far-reaching scheme will focus on boosting the city and region’s brand name as well as offering attractive package deals and exclusive discounts at a variety of tourist service providers (hotels, airline tickets) and cultural/archaeological sites.

A working group with representatives from the tourism and culture ministries, the Attica Region, the City of Athens and other parties has been set up to supervise the implementation of the plan.
