Greek Airports See Rise in Passenger Numbers in First 10 Months of 2016

airport_20160729_133436-1Passenger numbers at Greek airports during the first ten months of the year reached 49.3 million, an increase that exceeded the amount of passengers that passed through the country’s airports in all of 2015 (49.2 million).

According to data of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, this year’s passenger traffic is expected to hit record numbers, since passengers in October alone were over 135,256.

The total number of flights at Greek airports during the January-October 2016 period amounted to 419,316 (of which 165,118 were domestic and 254,198 international), an increase of four percent (1.3 percent on domestic flights and 5.7 percent on international flights) compared to the same period of 2015, which saw 403,362 flights.

In regards to passenger numbers in the first ten months of 2016 (49,313,246 passengers), a 9.7 percent increase was recorded compared with the same period in 2015 (44,951,813 passengers).

Moreover, the data showed that in October 4,690,561 passengers passed through Greek airports, an increase of 18.9 percent compared to the same month last year. The airports of Athens, Heraklion, Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Chania were those that saw the highest passenger numbers.
