Thessaloniki Paves Way for ‘Tourist in Your Town’ Initiative
A two-day event to explore alternative forms of tourism will take place in the northern port city of Thessaloniki, on September 6-7, on the American Farm School campus.
Organized in collaboration with Europe Direct, the “Alternative Tourism-Be a Tourist in Your Town” forum will focus on entrepreneurship as well as adventure, explore and experiential options available in the wider area. Speakers include specialists, experts and professionals from the local tourism sector.
In the meantime, participants will have the chance to check out the new moon at a special astronomy plus cocktails party to take place on the sidelines of the event on Day 1.
The second day brings a series of experiential tourism activities including wine tasting, olive oil sampling as well as cheese-making at the school’s dairy farm.
Thessaloniki visitors and the public, meanwhile, will also have the chance to take part in the “Tourist in Your Town” series of events taking place throughout the city’s parks in the evening.
Other activities include riding the waves of the Thermaikos Gulf on SUP Board or sailboat, touring the city’s art centers, trying your luck in a wide variety of themed escape rooms, touring the “Honey Park” dedicated to bees and their byproducts, and for kiddies making a massive collage and paper boat, playing with laser guns and mountain bike rides. “We aim to develop tourism in the city by firstly encouraging new tourist activities and enriching Thessaloniki’s tourist offerings and secondly involving residents in targeted experiential activities,” said Deputy Thessaloniki Mayor for Tourism Spiros Pengas.
