Dynamic Tourist Flows for Ionian Islands in July
Greece’s Ionian Islands, which include Corfu, Zakynthos and Kefallonia, recorded a welcome increase in the number of July arrivals, regional authorities said last week.
Indicatively, Corfu airport saw a 14.7 percent rise in foreign arrivals in July compared to last year. In the same month, incoming traffic at mainland Aktio International Airport (connecting the islands) grew by 25.6 percent, at Kefallonia airport by 8.5 percent and at Zakynthos airport by 9.1 percent.
In the meantime, the islands have also seen a rise in demand for rooms.
The number of domestic visitors surged by 30.5 percent at Corfu Airport, 129.2 percent at Aktio airport, 33.55 percent at Kefallonia and 14.7 percent on Zakynthos.
Road travel also picked up pace with more visitors from neighboring Balkan countries and Italy. There was a drop, however, in the number of vacationers from Turkey.
Meanwhile, pre-bookings for 2017 as well as the addition of direct flights next year reveal a growing interest in the Ionian Islands as a leading destination of choice. In this direction, Finnair recently announced the addition of Helsinki-Corfu route to operate as of April 26.
