Travel Makes Up 11% of Greeks’ Online Spending
Travel makes up 11 percent of Greeks’ online spending according to the latest report by PayPal and GfK, which found that 95 percent of Greeks shop online.
Greek e-shoppers prefer to buy from shops in the UK at 54 percent, China at 47 percent, the US at 34 percent and Germany at 21 percent.
Cheaper prices is the main reason 72 percent of Greek online shoppers prefer foreign shops, as well as access to items that are not available in Greece. Top items on their lists: clothing (41 percent), consumer electronics (31 percent), jewelry and watches (17 percent).
In the meantime, the frequency of online purchases from abroad can increase according to 41 percent of the respondents by the provision of coupons, offers or discounts as well as through websites in the Greek language (45 percent).
“Advances in technology are helping us provide customers with the right tools to expand e-commerce opportunities across borders at anytime and on any device,” said Matt Komorowski, managing director, Central Eastern Europe, PayPal.
“Greeks are directly involved in international trade, using digital platforms to learn, find work, display their talents and build personal networks. Over 24 percent of respondents from Greece said they received online payments from relatives or friends in the last 12 months, while 37 percent was paid online for services via Web services,” Mr Komorowski added.
