Cyclades Chamber Urges Winter Thessaloniki-islands Air Service
The Chamber of Cyclades is calling on its members and local entrepreneurs to take the necessary measures so that the islands and particularly Syros, where it is headquartered, remain connected with Thessaloniki in upcoming winter months.
In a letter to its members on Thursday, the Chamber makes mention of existing air links between the islands and the northern port city including Aegean Airlines (serving Mykonos, Santorini, Paros) and Ellinair, adding that Astra Airlines serves the Milos-Thessaloniki and Syros-Thessaloniki routes.
According to media reports, Astra Airlines is looking into keeping its Syros-Thessaloniki route active in winter running flights on weekends. In this direction, the chamber is calling on members to further support Astra in efforts to keep it in operation throughout the winter months thus contributing to year-round tourism
“The connection between the Cyclades and Northern Greece is particularly important for our islands as Thessaloniki is an international hub to Europe and beyond with multiple benefits for trade and tourism,” the letter says.
In its letter, the chamber is calling on the Professional Chamber of Thessaloniki and of neighbouring regions as well as on local business and hotel owners and tour operators to boost air travel to and from the islands in order to provide reason for companies to remain operational in winter months.
