Pioneering Greeks: Steve Vranakis, Google Creative Lab’s Executive Creative Director

Welcome to “Pioneering Greeks”, the weekly column of GTP Headlines, which highlights the Greeks that stand out for their creative thinking in the business world. “Pioneering Greeks” is a collaboration between LoveGreece.com and Greek Travel Pages (GTP).

This week we introduce Steve Vranakis, the Executive Creative Director at Google Creative Lab.

Steve brings almost 20 years of experience to Google from the world of digital, design and advertising. His team in Google has launched some of the campaigns that have changed the way we perceive the world, such as the Chrome Web Lab, a series of interactive experiments connected to the web live from the Science Museum in London; the Super Sync Sports, where you can turn your mobile into a games controller and sync it with your computer to play games; and the World Wonders Project, which gives access to the world’s heritage sites through Street View.

Previously he was one of the original partners and Creative Director at VCCP London. His approach is simple: to create famous work that gets talked about.

Steve was named the number 1 New Media Creative in Campaign’s “10 Hottest Digital Creatives of 2000 and 2009” as well as making their ‘A List’ in 2003, 2008 – 2010. His industry accolades include his work on BMW as the first ever ‘e-ad’ to be chosen as Campaign Magazine’s “Pick of the Week”.

Steve was also a key part of the hugely successful Comparethemeerkat.com that is sited as one of the most successful social media campaigns ever. Both the Book and iPhone app that were created for Comparethemeerkat.com have gone straight to number one.

Also, Steve and his team work hard to ensure that women in remote and rural areas of India will have access to the Internet.

His personal vision is that people around the world will have access to the internet and technology and through it they will develop and utilize their capabilities to the fullest extent.

Inspired by the dynamism and creativity of the Greek entrepreneurial spirit, LoveGreece was founded in 2013 as an initiative to boost and promote the country’s image abroad by profiling talented and successful Greeks. With their ethos and vision, Greece’s entrepreneurs and professionals are an important aspect of the country worth highlighting to the world. LoveGreece is powered by Gina Mamidaki, the founder of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation.
