Founded in 1999, the Crete Rescue Team is made up of 18 volunteer divers from all walks of life who offer their help in emergency response situations including mountain rescue, ground search and rescue, urban search and rescue and sea rescue, evacuation and first aid missions which are a result of natural disasters, fires, earthquakes, floods and accidents.
One of the main missions of the team is to educate and train youngsters and residents on how to react emergency situations, participating in Lasithi Region events and activities.
“The team is made of local professionals from various sectors who are also divers and who dedicate their free time to educating and contributing to the environment but also to the community,” team leader Dimitris Koulougousidis told the Greek Travel Pages (GTP), adding that support is always welcome.
Running through to July 10, Ecoweek Crete 2016 is made possible on the initiative of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation – bluegr Hotels & Resorts in collaboration with the Agios Nikolaos Municipality, the Ecoweek Network, the Lasithi Region and LoveGreece.com.
