Ryanair Cuts Check-in Bag Fees for Majority of Customers

Ryanair_Bags PR 121_June16Irish-based carrier Ryanair has slashed baggage fees as part of its “Always Getting Better Programme”, allowing passengers to save as much as 50 percent.

“Over 92 percent of our customers will enjoy reduced bag fees and will pay the same price for checking-in a bag whether bought at the time of the initial booking or added to the booking, regardless of seasonality”, Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kenny Jacobs, said in an announcement on Friday.

Passengers flying a domestic flight of two hours or less used to have to pay 30 euros to check in a 15kg bag and 40 euros for luggage weighing 20kg. According to the new charges, check in for a 15kg bag now costs 15 euros and 25 euros for a 20kg piece of luggage.

Customers travelling to destinations under three hours will also see reduced prices, while passengers booked on flights longer than three hours will see baggage prices remain the same.

“Furthermore, customers will also be able to add bags to their bookings via the Ryanair app up to 3 hours before their scheduled time of departure”, Mr Jacobs added.

Ryanair has also reduced the number of luggage charge options from 108 to six.
