Crete to Host Global Sustainable Tourism Council Meet in May
Sustainable tourism will be the talk of the week on the Greek island of Crete during the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Europe regional meeting to be held on May 16-21.
The GSTC regional event invites tourism sector professionals and players to join forces, take action and exchange and engage in sustainable tourism developments. Participants will gain insight into sustainability issues related to tourism in Europe and globally, useful sector contacts, solutions to improve the sustainability of their own business, information on sustainable destinations and ideas about marketing sustainable tourism.
Issues on the GSTC weeklong meeting agenda include: sustainability standards, GSTC industry criteria and the results from the relevant public consultation process, sustainable destinations criteria and best practices in Europe as well as tools and methods for marketing sustainable tourism.
A post-event tour to nearby locations featuring best practice in sustainable tourism will be an available option on the sidelines of the meeting, which is organized by GSTC CEO Randy Durband (US) and GSTC technical director Guy Chester (US) together with GSTC country representatives Dr Ioannis Pappas (Greece), Mary Mulvey (Ireland) and Susana Conde (Spain).
