It’s been the busiest January in the history of the Athens International Airport (AIA) with over one million passengers in the first month of the year.

According to data, last month the airport’s passenger traffic continued the successful course of the previous year, achieving a robust increase of almost 12 percent (11.9 percent), reaching 1.1 million, which is a historical record for the specific month.

Domestic travellers demonstrated a strong growth of 16.5 percent reaching 438,073 and international passengers showed a healthy rise of 9.1 percent reaching 654,653.

According to AIA, both Greek and foreign visitors increased their air travel by 12 percent, showing that both traveller groups continue in 2016 their positive development.
