Ioannis Bras Steps In as Head of S. Aegean Waterways Network
Ioannis Bras has been appointed project manager for the South Aegean Region waterway network as part of the regional authority’s strategic plan to expand the islands’ tourism potential, the prefect, George Hadjimarkos, announced on Thursday.
Bras, who has for the past five years served as chairman and managing director of the Heraklion Port Authority, will oversee the 26 waterways planned for the network.
“We are working with the best for the materialization of the waterways, seeking the maximum benefits for our islands,” Hadjimarkos said during the press conference.
“Nothing will get in the way of achieving our goal, namely the creation of a sustainable waterway network.”
Mr Hadjimarkos added that bringing Mr Bras “on board brings us closer to the implementation of our objective. His knowhow and experience stand as guarantees that we have selected a project manager whose high standards suit the South Aegean Region and its outlook.”
“The waterways network is important in that it will contribute to the further development of the South Aegean islands. We must all work towards making this vision a reality with the close cooperation of regional, port and municipal authorities,” Bras said.
Besides his tenure as head of the Heraklion Port Authority, which has been awarded several times for its innovative initiatives, upgrade actions and sustainable development policies, Mr Bras has studied structural engineering and architecture in the UK, and has offered specialized consulting services in the areas of property and tourism management.
Well done on a very high-standard secondment from the Heraklion Port Authority. My congrats and wishes for successes to come.
