Corfu as an Appealing Winter Holiday Destination
The brilliant colours of Corfu were splashed across the pages of the Spanish edition of InStyle magazine this month, in an extensive travel feature showcasing the Ionian island as an appealing winter destination.
In the December issue of the leading fashion and lifestyle glossy, Corfu is the location of an eight-page fashion-oriented travelogue starring elegant Spanish actress Carolina Bang.
Entitled “Mediterranean Winter”, the story sees Bang take readers on a sun-soaked journey across the island, revealing its history, culture, gastronomy and stunning seascapes.
The story sub-heading reads: “Actress Carolina Bang reveals Corfu, a charming town where ancient culture blends with the blue sea. Pack your suitcase and enjoy a warm and, above all, exquisite winter!”
Corfu is “a great destination for those who seek the light of the Mediterranean, even in the coldest of months”, the story reads.
Bang is pictured sipping on a cocktail at an outdoor terrace with Corfu’s Byzantine Fortress as a backdrop, strolling through the narrow streets of the old town, shopping for classic island wear and pouring a glass of wine at a restaurant.
“Corfu is a wonderful island, a relaxing haven of peace in the heart of the Mediterranean,” she says.
In a media trip organised jointly by Marketing Greece and the Greek Embassy in Madrid, as part of a strategic positioning to promote Corfu as an autumn-winter destination in Spain, Bang visited the Diva of the Ionian in early October
In the article, she makes recommendations for travellers, including museums worth visiting and Corfiot dishes, while the story also features images of coffee culture at the Liston Arcade, traditional tavernas on town squares, beachscapes from above and hidden churches.
“Besides its beaches, Corfu is a culturally rich town; it fascinates me. In every corner, there is something amazing!” says Bang, who was drawn to the maze of alleyways in the city centre, the mix of neoclassical buildings, palaces, museums and old cafes and “the number of temples of various religions that coexist in the city”.
