S. Aegean Region Preps for Longer Tourism Season
Extending the tourism season, reaching out to new markets and strengthening incoming tourism from Russia were the key issues Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura discussed with South Aegean Region Deputy Prefect for Tourism, Marietta Papavasiliou, during the 2nd Greek Tourism Expo held in Athens last week.
Mrs Kountoura underlined the ministry’s actions for the extension of the season as well as the joint efforts with South Aegean authorities and professionals in this direction.
“Extending the tourism season is a key objective for the South Aegean Region’s tourism department, which is working hard to achieve this,” said Mrs Papavasiliou.
The deputy prefect added that regional authorities were opening up to new markets with innovative vacation options, looking into ways to benefit from the upcoming Greece-Russia cross-year activities in order to bring in more Russian visitors, and aiming through participation in world fairs to promote the islands.
During the 2nd Greek Tourism Expo, 25 of the region’s islands were featured to some 100 hosted buyers from Europe, the Balkans, Asia and the Middle East. The islands’ luxury offerings, meanwhile, were showcased to more than 1,300 buyers during the International Luxury Travel Market held in Cannes, last month.
