The Tourism Ministry is examining ways to reconstruct the level of tourism education and upgrade the Greek vocational tourism training schools (former OTEK* schools), Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura said on Wednesday.
“The ministry supports and aims to upgrade the level of tourism education in accordance to the contemporary demands of the global tourism market”, she said during a meeting with Syriza MP of Lasithi, Crete, Manolis Thrapsaniotis and Deputy Mayor of Agios Nikolaos Afrodite Kostaki-Varkaraki. The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of Tourism Gerasimos Zaharatos.
During the meeting, the alternate minister said that the higher education schools ASTER and ATEK, located on Rhodes and Crete respectively, play an important role in tourism education and that changes would only apply for their improvement.
Moreover, she invited local communities and tourism bodies to support the ministry’s efforts to improve the educational level of the schools and offer better knowledge to the future employees of the tourism industry.
