Georgios A. Tsakiris, President Hellenic Chamber of Hotels
Official Tourism Message
The tourism sector’s performance in 2014 was well above our expectations despite the on-going recession of the Greek economy and 2015 turned out to be a much better year.
Greek Tourism demonstrates once again the strength and importance of the sector in the national economy. The Greek hospitality industry offers employment opportunities to young people in these turbulent times when unemployment affects the workforce in all other sectors.
Europe remains the main source of foreign tourists in our country, with a share of 88% in 2014, while the German tourists still have the largest share on inbound tourism followed by the British.
This shows our strong links with the European Union and the actual support of our European partners to Greece.
So, it is in the hands of the government with appropriate policies and to the tourism business community to help maintain this impetus for the years to come.
It is imperative to make every effort to upgrade our infrastructure, to raise our services to higher standards, whether we work in the public or private sector and thus to ensure the best possible satisfaction of the visitors in our country.
