Rethymno Hoteliers, Producers Get to Know ‘We Do Local’, Next Stop Heraklion
Tourism professionals in Rethymno, Crete, had the chance to learn more about the ambitious “We Do Local” initiative granting annual certification to ventures that successfully support and promote the island’s products.
An initiative of 14 local professionals across Crete, the body’s aim is to upgrade the Greek tourist product and ensure that quality standards are being met through its certification standard titled “We Do Local” – a collaboration with accreditation body Cosmocert and social cooperative Local Food Experts.
“We Do Local” was presented recently at Rethymno’s Grecotel White Palace under the auspices of the Tourism Ministry and with the support of the Rethymno Hoteliers Association (RHA) and the prefecture’s chamber of commerce.
“It is imperative that we specify the identity of accommodation provided, strengthen local production and economy, and promote Greek hospitality and culture to our guests,” said Manolis Tsakalakis, RHA president.
The event included details of the accreditation procedure, the presentation of local products where producers had the chance to exchange ideas and the certification of two new members: the Grecotel White Palace and the Theartemis Palace.
Heraklion will be the next stop of “We Do Local”, where local hoteliers and producers will have the opportunity to learn more about the initiative .
