Athens’ First ‘HACKATHON #TRANSPORT’ Open Data Event Launches this Weekend
This weekend, July 18-19, the Greek capital’s first HACKATHON #TRANSPORT will take place at the Athens Technopolis in Gazi by the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA S.A.), InnovAthens, the Athens’ Municipality Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub and Crowdpolicy Innovative Company.
The HACKATHON #TRANSPORT is a two-day festival focused on the design and implementation of applications leveraging open data.
The event is part of the “CROWDHACKATHON / INNOVATING WITH OPENDATA” initiative and aims to promote the culture of open data as well as opportunities for the Greek economy and job market, offer incentives and inspiration for the development of products or services, mobilize relevant ministries and other public institutions to make their “open data” available for use and innovation, following the example of OASA.
The event will be held under the auspices of the Transport and Networks Division of the Greek Ministry of Economy, Infrastructure, Shipping & Tourism.
Organizers are inviting groups of young entrepreneurs, programmers, analysts, business consultants, professionals, students and generally anyone interested to contribute actively to the development of applications that promote entrepreneurship and improve services to the public, either as developers of Internet and smartphone applications or as supporters of the initiative.
The top six groups will be honored with distinguished prizes. Also, all participants and winners will be offered counseling services from the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of the Athens University of Economics.
Also invited are members of the public or the private sectors to actively participate through “opening” their data on culture, tourism, environment and public administration.
Greek Travel Pages (GTP) is among the supporters of the event and will provide its “open data” to be used for innovative open source programs.
The deadline to enroll is Friday, July 17.
