Hersonissos Day Event Finds Germans Still Choosing Crete
German travelers have a soft spot for Crete, which they chose to visit more than once, according to the findings of a workshop on “German Market: Trends and Challenges” held in Hersonissos, on Tuesday.
Municipal authorities, local sector professionals including hoteliers from Ierapetra, Elounda, Agios Nikolaos and Rethymno, as well as German tour operators attended the workshop, which was organized as part of a series of informative events by the Hersonissos Municipality.
According to the municipality’s tourism department, German travelers continue to prefer Crete as a holiday destination and are repeat visitors, returning to the island for their holidays. Despite the low figures for the February-April period, bookings now seem to be picking up.
In the meantime, HolidayCheck representative Natalie Humphreys said her company recorded 14,132 bookings and 133,511 overnight stays in Crete in 2014, which amounted to total revenues of 24,630,338 euros.
The event closed with a question and answer session.
Initially launched as a website in 1999, HolidayCheck grew into a company in 2004 and besides offering insight into holiday trends, provides a ground for exchange of opinions and reviews. Today HolidayCheck is available in 10 languages.
