Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta Brings Glamour to Greek Seas in June
After five years of diligence and drive, the Spetses Classic Yacht Race has grown into a fully fledged regatta set to take place on the Saronic island on June 18-21, with sights on extending the duration and expanding its categories.
Organized by the Yacht Club of Greece (YCG), this year the event will also feature the 1st Hellenic Classic & Traditional Boat Circuit, which aims to become a reference point for alternative tourism in the Mediterranean, and will start from Corfu, stop over at Spetses and end in Syros (June 25-27).
“During these five years and through perseverance and hard work, we have managed to include the Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta (SCYR) in the international calendar of Mediterranean races, attracting to our country unique boats,” said YCG President Alexander Papadogonas.
Organizers plan to introduce a new category this year, the Classic Dinghies, to be administered under the Portsmouth handicap scheme for small sailboat racing.
There will also be a recreational/training Challenge Race on June 17 for sailboats arriving early to Spetses.
“While remaining faithful to the values of the YCG, we have worked systematically throughout the year towards one of the best-organized and important sailing events in the Mediterranean, with evident benefits for our country and for maritime tourism,” Organizing Committee President and YCG Vice President Nontas Lampadarios added.
