Athens Airport Continues Artistic ‘Connection’ with Art-Athina
The artistic collaboration of Athens International Airport (AIA) and the “Art-Athina” International Contemporary Art Fair continues with two new thematic exhibitions.
The first exhibition is taking place at the “Art and Environment” exhibition space (Departures Level). There, visitors embark on a journey through the history of Athens and its surroundings as well as through the history of contemporary art in public spaces.
The exhibition is entitled “The walls of Athens and their Destiny” and examines the art of graffiti and street-art, which may be anonymous but has “artists” that have made their own history. The works of Vlassis Caniaris (1928-2011), the precursor of today’s street-art and graffiti artists, will open the exhibition. Curated by Manos Stefanidis, the exhibition features works by Manolis Anastasakos and Alexandros Vasmoulakis.
The second exhibition is running at the “Art and Culture” exhibition space (Arrivals Level) and is part of the thematic cycle of “The Journey”, which opened with Jenny Marketou’s “Stolen Bubbles”.
This exhibition presents the video-works of 5 contemporary artists — Fotini Gousseti, Lina Theodorou, Angelos Spartalis, Yannis Grigoriadis, Erato Hatzisavva — under the general title “The Journey: 5 different viewpoints”. The curator of the show is Artemis Potamianou.
Access to the airport’s new exhibitions is free, on a 24-hour basis, from May 4 to August 31.
