Spetsathlon-2015_DatesThe 3rd Spetsathlon, to kick off this weekend, is set to draw in sports lovers with new events this year including a 1,000m swimming race, the Spetses cycling tour (25km) and parallel happenings.

Whether it’s triathletes, runners, swimmers, cyclists, kiddies or adults, the Spetsathlon 2015, jointly organized by Communication Lab, also behind the Spetses Mini Marathon, and the Hellenic Triathlon Federation (EOTRI), will take place on the Saronic island of Spetses on April 24-26, supervised by triathlon champion Vassilis Krommidas.

Under the motto “Participation is Winning”, acclaimed athletes and triathletes will take part in the events, which include the Spetses Triathlon Sprint (750m swimming, 25km cycling and 5km running), the Olympic Spetses Triathlon Endurance race (1,500m swimming, 50km cycling and 10km run) and the relay race.

“The success of the 2nd Spetsathlon demonstrates the high standards. The EOTRI aims through the joint organization of yet another event to promote the triathlon and the valuesit represents,” EOTRI president George Yerolimpos said.

Some 250 volunteers have joined forces for the successful operation of the Spetsathlon this year, held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and the Spetses municipality.

“Hosting the largest triathlon in Greece for a third consecutive year on the island of Spetses demonstrates the high level of organization and the excellent cooperation between the EOTRI and the Spetses municipality. The dynamics are impressive as demonstrated by the increasing participation and the presence of the country’s greatest athletes, which contributes to the promotion of Spetses and Greece internationally,” added Dr Marina Coutarelli, organising committee president.

Last year, over 400 triathletes, 200 cyclists, 250 volunteers and some 1,500 visitors flocked to Spetses for the 2nd Spetsathlon, establishing it as one of the most popular sports events in Greece. More info can be found here.
