Crete’s Hersonissos Municipality Talks Tourism in Sweden
As part of its ongoing strategy to promote the diverse offerings of the region and inform Scandinavian tour operators of alternative options available, Crete’s Municipality of Hersonissos participated in this year’s Grekland Panorama, held on February 13-15 in Stockholm.
The Municipality of Hersonissos welcomed thousands of visitors to its stand, which featured regional tourism professionals. Grekland Panorama participants expressed interest in the diverse offerings of the northern Crete destination, which include high quality accommodation, alternative tourism experiences and one of the country’s finest cuisines.
“The signs for the coming summer season are positive,” deputy mayor responsible for tourism Efthymios Mountrakis said, and pointed to a 10-12 percent increase in the number of bookings compared to last year.
“Our gastronomy, our friendliness and the hospitality of the locals as well as the security visitors feel in our country, make Hersonissos such a popular choice,” the deputy mayor added.
Mountrakis said that B2B meetings were fruitful and that tourist agents as well as travel journalists and bloggers were invited to visit Hersonissos, where the municipality will offer guided tours of the region.
Organized by tourism consultants North Events, this year’s Grekland Panorama brought together tourism sector professionals from Greece and Scandinavian countries wishing to build bridges and enter future collaborations. Over 11,000 visitors attended one of the industry’s largest events in the greater Scandinavian region.
