State museums and archaeological sites in Greece are now operating in accordance to the winter schedule.
Greek museums and archaeological sites will open at 8am and close at 3pm, according to a recent decision of the Culture Ministry that was published in the Government Gazette. Exceptions may apply to the opening hours of certain museums. For the opening hours of all museums and sites (in Greek) press here.
The winter schedule will run until 31 March 2015.
It should be noted that all state museums and archaeological sites are closed on 25 and 26 December, 1 January, 25 March and National Holidays.
It is very worrying to hear that the lift (or elevator) which takes disabled and mobility impaired vistors up the Acropolis is ‘Out of Order’ and waiting for a budget to pay for the spare part. (?)
Surely, this is a national priority above all others and needs to be fixed as soon as possible, to keep Greece’s no. 1 tourist attraction visitable and open for all, and maintain the high reputation of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
