New Tourism Studies Program at University of the Aegean, Greece
As part of Greece’s ongoing plans to heighten the role of the tourism sector in the country’s economy, the University of the Aegean approved the establishment of a tourism department at its Rhodes campus.
The proposal, tabled by the education ministry, was discussed during an extraordinary university council meeting on Wednesday, where ways were discussed to ensure the department’s smooth operation.
The academic authorities said in a press release that the university was expanding its pre-graduate program, offering classes in English to students from Greece, EU and other countries.
The dean’s office said in a statement that the new department is the result of long-term efforts and will contribute a great deal to the upgrade of tourism studies in Greece.
“The school aims, despite the difficult economic times, to equip the new generation with high-level knowledge and skills in competitive sectors such as tourism that support the country’s potential for growth.”
