Athens Marathon Shows Greece Is Open All Year Round To Visitors
Greece has the ability to attract visitors all 12 months of the year through a multi-layered development of the tourism sector, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni said during the award ceremony of the 2014 AIMS Best Marathon Runners of the Year held on Friday at the Athens College in view of the “Athens Marathon. Τhe Authentic” event.
During her speech, Mrs. Kefalogianni said that events that attract international interest, such as the Athens Marathon, contribute to the arrival of tourists, boost the business of tourism establishments and also reveal that Greece has the infrastructure to accommodate visitors every season and every month of the year.
She noted that the marathon is an additional opportunity to highlight Greece and increase the momentum the country has already gained in tourism. “It is an opportunity for the global tourism community to comprehend that Greece is in the spotlight and is constantly upgrading infrastructure and quality and gaining international recognition,” she said.
Referring to the Greek capital, the tourism minister said that the marathon comes to reinforce the reality that Athens is a European capital that can accommodate tourists during all seasons, support conferences and offer visitors the “unique color of Greece” during all 12 months of the year.
