Armenia Expresses Interest To Learn From Greece’s Experience In Tourism

Greece_welcome_homeArmenia is interested in Greece’s experience of tourism industry development, Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan said on 30 September at the opening of the Armenian-Greek business forum in Yerevan.

According to a report by ARKA News Agency, president Sargsyan said that Armenia would like to use Greece’s experience in building hotel infrastructure, implement joint programs with Greek tour operators and establish exchange of experience.

Greece_Armenia“If we normally cooperate in this area with Greek organizations, Armenia will benefit, and entrepreneurs, will establish profitable businesses, as Greece has a very rich experience,” said Mr. Sargsyan.

ARKA reported that the president believes that good results are expected if Armenia launches a cooperation with the Greek side.

Armenia has adopted the policy of “open skies” to expand and improve the quality of air flights. President Sargsyan said that the increase in the frequency of scheduled flights between Armenia and Greece would trigger the development of tourism.

You’d think the Armenians need a better role model. Greece is hardly an example worth mimicking. Perhaps they can learn what not to do with their tourism industry from Greece. How not to allow petty politics to intefere with business, how to choose capable and intelligent people at the National Tourism Board, how not to take tourists for granted, how not to waste money on bad marketing campaigns, how not to destroy a beautiful country with sheer short-sighted stupidity. Hmm, I guess they can learn from Greece.
