Rhodes Tourist Arrivals Increase In May 2014
Tourist arrivals on Rhodes recorded a growth of 11.38 percent in May 2014 compared to the same period in 2013, according to recent data released by Rhodes International Airport “Diagoras.”
During the month of May, the Greek Island recorded 237,873 tourists arrivals compared to the 213,564 that arrived in May 2013.
Most of the tourists arrived from Israel with an increase of 56 percent over corresponding 2013 figures. Arrivals from Germany, Finland and Switzerland also showed an increase.
On the other hand, arrivals from Russia and Ukraine were down 10 percent and 50 percent respectively.
However, despite the drop from the Russian market, the country still ranked third after the UK and Germany that occupy the first and second place, respectively, in terms of arrivals to Rhodes.
The data also showed that arrivals to Rhodes were also up from the Scandinavian market, as well as from Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg.
In regards to domestic tourism, a decrease of 9.12 percent was recorded last month. During May, Rhodes recorded 27.438 Greek arrivals, while a year ago the number of Greeks that traveled to the island was 30,190.
