Imam Baildi Live At Athens MusicPort
On Thursday 29 May, Greek band Imam Baildi will perform live at the “MusicPort” of the Athens International Airport, taking passengers and airport visitors οn a musical journey filled with vintage sounds and many more surprises.
By fusing the sounds and the melodies of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s with today’s music, Imam Baildi have created their own identity, taking audiences on journeys, similar to the one they have prepared for the Athens airport event, shortly before their tour kicks off in Canada.
The airport event is part of of the Fly me to the Moon/MusicPort project, an Athens Airport cooperation with the culture platform ελculture.
Imam Baildi will perform 13:30 – 14:30 at the Departures Level – Airport’s shopping center (public access area).
Imam Baildi were formed when brothers Orestis and Lysandros began to experiment with remixes of songs from past decades. They stem from a family with a long connection with rebetiko: their father owned both a record label specializing in the genre and a popular record shop in central Athens with a vast 78rpm vinyl collection. Therefore the idea of mixing rebetiko with different types of music came about naturally to the siblings that grew up in such a musical environment.
In parallel with their activity in Greece, Imam Baildi have a constant flow of live shows and discographic presence abroad. Their two albums have been featured on the top of the European World Music Charts, they have toured three times in Europe and they give more than 30 gigs per year outside Greece, counting among others participations in some of the biggest European festivals – Sziget, Lowlands, Roskilde, Transmusicales De Rennes – as well as their last year’s participation in South by Southwest, USA’ s biggest music conference. This year they have already completed a tour in the USA, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium while they are getting ready for their first show in Canada.
