Athens International Airport invites travelers and airport visitors to a unique photo journey that displays the rare beauty, diversity, and enormous ecological capital of the Lefka Ori mountains on Crete.

The exhibition is entitled “Life Embracing Rock” and is being held 50 years after the declaration of Samaria and its famous Gorge as a National Park and in cooperation with the Samaria National Park management.

Visitors will take a journey through 32 images by 26 Greek photographers, who crossed the alpine environment and captured the roughness and the harmony of the mountains, in various forms, moments and colors. They will witness how the National Park bares the rare attribute of combining – in one region – the mountainous and marine environment, as well as the forested and the “madaro” (without any vegetation) element.

Digital material with over 400 photos of the Samaria National Park will be projected in the exhibition area.

The “Life Embracing Rock” exhibition will be on display until 31 August 2014, open to all passengers and visitors in the “Art & Environment” Exhibition area (Departures level – Entrance 3 / mezzanine level) on a 24hour basis.
