Thessaloniki’s Marathon To Welcome Runners From All Over The World

Runners from every continent, even from distant countries like El Salvador and Mali, have registered to run in the 9th International Alexander the Great Marathon taking place on Sunday 6 April in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece.

According to an announcement, runners from five continents and 54 countries will take part in the marathon and experience a historic route and learn the importance of Thessaloniki and Macedonia as a center of history, culture and sports.

The countries taking part are: Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Afghanistan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, FYROM, Germany, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, Iran, Israel, Italy, Ireland, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Luxembourg, Mali, Montenegro, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Nigeria, Norway,Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, United States and United Kingdom.

Alexander_marathon_ThessalonikiThrough the 42km route of the Alexander the Great Marathon, the History of Macedonia will be viewed.

The start of the marathon begins from the statue of Alexander the Great, in Pella, birthplace of Alexander the Great and the capital of ancient Macedonia. The finish is at the White Tower at the Thessaloniki seafront.

The event also has a cultural, social, environmental, historical and touristic character as the racing program (42 km Pella–Thessaloniki marathon, 5km, 10km and 1000m road races) will be surrounded by various parallel events.
