Greece: Awards & World Recognition – A Look Back
Greece has received numerous industry awards and recognition that bear testimony to the beauty of the destination and its quality tourism product that includes top hotels, numerous sites, gastronomy options and entertainment choices, to name a few!
The following are some of Greece’s most recent accolades.
Tripadvisor 2014 Travelers’ Choice Awards
Greek islands and hotels shined on this year’s Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice award lists, established by the travel review site to assist travelers from all over the world that seek inspiration for their travel planning.
Greek Islands: The Cyclades Island of Naxos shined on Tripadvisor’s list of the 10 best islands in the world for 2014 as it ranked sixth.
Naxos also ranked second on Tripadvisor’s list of the 10 best islands in Europe for 2014 that also included Milos (fifth place), Kefalonia (sixth place), Santorini (seventh place) and Paros (10th place).
Greek Hotels: In Tripadvisor’s top 25 of the world’s best hotels for 2014, the Lindos Blu on Rhodes ranked seventh and also came in 16th among the top 25 luxury hotels in the world.

Anastasis Apartments, located in Imerovigli on Santorini, ranked fifth on the top 25 small hotels in the world list. The same list included Astra Suites, also located in Imerovigli, which ranked 21st. Astra Suites also ranked ninth top hotel in Europe and acquired the fifth place of the top hotel romantic getaways in the world.
Spa Traveler Awards
The Anazoe Spa in Costa Navarino in Messinia, Peloponnese region, picked up two titles in the global Spa Traveler Awards 2013. The spa came in first place in the categories: Best Spa Hotel/Resort: Greece and Best European Spa for Incentive Breaks.
Costa Navarino is also one of the three finalists in the “Destination” category of the prestigious 2014 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards that are organized by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and recognize the very best in sustainable tourism worldwide. The winners of 2014 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards will be announced in China on 24 April.
Contribution to tourism
Cavo Paradiso, an Ibiza-style open-air mega club on the Greek island of Mykonos, was honored during the East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Exhibition – EMITT 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey, for its contribution to tourism.
A well-known hot spot for clubbers, Cavo Paradiso has been ranked in the past as one of the top clubs in the world.
Recognition
Aegean Islands: After touring hundreds of global wine regions, the Wine Enthusiast magazine included the Aegean Islands in Greece as one of the “10 Best Wine Travel Destinations for 2014” in their January issue.
Acropolis Museum Restaurant: Online travel research site and travel community VirtualTourist.com selected the top five museum restaurants to eat in the world and included the Acropolis Museum Restaurant alongside the restaurants of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Musee d’Orsay in Paris.
Greek Restaurant Selene: The Daily Meal’s second-annual 101 Best Restaurants in Europe list – that honors the bounty of fine cuisine that can be found in countries all over the continent – includes the Selene restaurant on Santorini. The Greek restaurant came in 82nd place on the list, a grouping of what The Daily Meal calls a “carefully selected collection of the region’s finest epicurean enterprises.”
Athens: American daily New York Times included the Greek capital in a feature and suggested the destination as one of the “52 places for one to visit this year.”
