Panos Livadas, Secretary General Greek National Tourism Organization

Panos_Livadas_PortraitPhiloxenia 2013 greeting.

Tourism is an activity essential to economic, social, cultural and educational sectors of national societies, as well as to their international relations. Greece has always been a prominent destination, not only because of its unique culture, history and beauty, but also because of its exceptionally hospitable people. These aspects and more, make up Greece’s invincible brand identity.

The Greek National Tourism Organization, always following the current global trends, strives to promote, in this ever-changing global environment, this authentic brand, by all suitable means, while at the same time focuses on building a more sufficient investing environment.

The recent statistics indicating a quite significant increase on arrivals, prove that our efforts are flourishing. The tourism sector in Greece has grown by 9.2 percent, hosting around 7.000.000 tourists from January to June 2013, while the annual forecast for 2013 is 17.000.000 visitors.

In financial terms and according to the Bank of Greece, the revenues from the Tourism Sector, for the months January-June, increased by 17,8%, in comparison with the same period last year. This growth contributes very significantly to our country’s economy and leads to many more jobs.

Figures may have a voice on their own, however we all know that without the constructive collaboration between the private and public sector, none of the above would have been possible. Strategic planning and teamwork with all the Greek tourism sector stake holders are the key factors for a sustainable, balanced and human oriented tourism growth, from which we will all benefit.

I’d like to express my deepest esteem and to wish the greatest success to 29th PHILOXENIA, that aims to showcase all the new developments on the sector. From the position of GNTO Secretary General, I invite everyone to work together for the common cause of adding extra value to Greece’s most important asset; tourism.
