Greece’s Tourism Revenues Rise In January-August Period

tourists_kathimeriniGreek revenues from tourism rose by 13.7 percent in the eight-month period between January and August this year, Bank of Greece data published on 29 October showed.

Arrivals also saw a 14.7 increase in the same period, rising above the 10-million mark to reach 12.5 million, with the peak August period performing the best as revenues in that month alone increased 12.4 percent and arrivals by 18.9 percent compared to last year.

According to the Bank of Greece data, revenues from visitors from non-European Union countries rose by 29.1 percent in January-August, or 3.28 billion euros, while visitors from the EU’s 28 member states accounted for an additional 5.26 million euros’ worth of revenues, corresponding to a rise of 8.6 percent compared to the January-August period in 2012.

In August alone, revenues from non-EU residents rose by 188 million euros to 989 million euros compared to the same month last year, while EU residents brought in an additional 193 million euros, or 11.6 percent more than in August 2012.
