Kefalogianni Promotes Greek Medical Tourism In The U.S.
Greece’s advantages as a tourism destination but also as a country that provides high quality health services were presented by Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni in a meeting held on 1 October at the office of the Greek National Tourism Organization in New York, U.S.
The meeting was attended by selected insurance companies in the U.S. and American professors of medicine.
Mrs. Kefalogianni noted that Greece, besides being one of the most attractive tourism destinations in the world, has a significant number of qualified medical personnel and medical facilities located in all parts of the country and especially in big cities.
“The combination of these two elements can create a competitive advantage for medical tourism in Greece, compared to the rest of the international market,” the tourism minister said.
Mrs. Kefalogianni added that among the ministry’s main priorities is to attract medical tourists from the markets of Northern Europe, the United States (especially the Diaspora), the Balkan countries, Russia and the Middle East.
The Greek Tourism Ministry recently signed a joint ministerial decision with the Health Ministry to set the legislative framework for medical tourism development in Greece.
The tourism minister is currently in New York to further promote Greek tourism to American citizens and the media. This is her second visit to the U.S. this year.
