Deutsche Welle: The Success Story Of Mykonos
Germany’s international broadcaster Deutsche Welle recently ran a news report on Mykonos, through which the TV station’s journalist presented the island as a “Greek success story.”
The report was shown on European Journal, Deutsche Welle’s weekly English news program.
According to the 4-minute news report, an exceptional summer season for Mykonos is coming to an end.
This year, Mykonos welcomed 60 percent more tourists compared to 2012 and the island also attracted many luxury yachts and cruise ships.
The journalist underlines that the rapid growth of tourism in Greece is also due to a large extent to the slump in the North African tourism industry.
He emphasizes that Greeks are pinning their greatest hopes on tourism to get the country back on its feet and that this “small Cycladic paradise” plays a key role in this effort.
The 4-minute Deutsche Welle report, which includes statements from entrepreneurs and the island’s mayor, Irini Grypari, shows footage of the island’s cobblestone streets and focuses on the many luxury shops and self-sufficient tourists enjoying the sun in luxurious resorts.
