Nestos River Welcomed Athletes With Disabilities
Athletes with disabilities from Thessaloniki, Kavala, Serres and Komotini recently took part in the “Riverwalk 2013” event and went canoeing down a 10-kilometer route in the Nestos river.
Riverwalk 2013, an ambitious initiative implemented for the first time in Greece, was organized by the “Perpato” association for people with kinetic disabilities and the “Irodikos” sports association for people with disabilities.
The first edition of “Riverwalk” was held only for a small number of participants so the organizers could study this year’s results and hold an even better organization next year. People with different disabilities took part and organizers studied the exact support they needed while in a canoe.
The organizers aim for the event to be repeated and established permanently in the coming years with an even longer route and more entries from all of Greece.
